Concord Road covered bridge

These are pictures of the Concord Rd. Cover Bridge in Smyrna, Ga. I was able to swing by it on my way from my Chiropractor to Marlie’s birthday party. The bridge is located on Concord Rd. (I know, what a concept) next to the Silver Comet trail at 33.849069, -84.559204 and spans the Nickaback Creek. This is a one lane bridge that the commuters that drive over it must use the courtesy method of crossing, (Yeah, right). The first set of photos is looking at the bridge from Cover Bridge Rd. No the cover bridge isn’t on the Cover Bridge Rd, (go figure).

The Bottom two of the next group is taken from the other side of the bridge looking back towards cover bridge road and a historical marker of the Battle of Ruff’s Mill with reads:

“July 4, 1864 Early AM., Brig Gen John Fuller’s brigade, 4th div. 16th A.C. (union) moved 1 mile east from the Nickaback Cr, Bridge, Concord, Rd., to ascertain the strength of Hood’s A.C. (confederate). Finding it strongly posted, Fuller return to Ruff’s Mill. Late PM., Fuller’s men again advance, supported by Sweeny 2nd Div., and after a bitter struggle seize the first line of works on Hood’s rt., near the present Gann Cemetery.
The Federal assault on Johnston’s left & the one at Smyrna on his rt., were incidental to his retreat from Kennesaw to the river. Col. Edward Noyes, 39th O.V.V.I (Governor of Ohio 1872-1874) lost a leg in this battle.”

These next two groups are of Nickaback creek and a couple of houses that are near the bridge.
